Costin Bucura according to Mircea Gheorghe

IF THERE IS ONE THING WE COULD LEARN FROM THE OLD GREEKS IT IS THE FACT THEY WERE THE FIRST TO RECOGNIZE THE BEAUTY IN SPORTS AND ATHLETICS. LOOKING AT THE HUMAN BODY IN ALL ITS NATURAL BEAUTY AS A PIECE OF ART. AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT MIRCEA GHEORGHE DID WHEN WORKING WITH COSTIN BUCURA.

"As it is the case with many passions, everything started in early childhood. While my parents were working, my brother would take care of me, resulting in him taking me everywhere he went. Including the gym. My brother used to be a professional bodybuilder, and me, being the younger one and idolizing him, I tried to copy whatever he did. We were spending so much time in the gym, it soon became a second home for me."

Costin Bucura’s life has always been characterized my sports. You could almost say that it is in his DNA. Ever since he was a kid he practiced athletics, gymnastics and even ballet. The last few years he concentrated his activities mostly on two sports: karate and fitness. At the age of 25 he turned karate into a profession, which landed him several silver and a golden medal between 2002 and 2005. Both on European and global championships. Costin participated for the first time in a fitness championship in 2008. He became third at the European championship, and fifth in the World Championship in that same year. Now, while still being active in competitive sports, he also extended his career being a personal trainer and aerobics and tae bo trainer.

We introduced you to Mircea Gheorghe and his fantastic talent earlier this year. Impressed as we were with his work, we have been waiting for another chance to show you some of this talented Romanian photographer. And that opportunity presented itself with this series of Costin Bucura: a gallery of portraits that perfectly combines the art of a sculpted body with black and white photography. If the ancient Greeks would have had the opportunity to make photographs, we can imagine their art would look something like the study Mircea did with Costin: dramatic poses with flexed and stretched muscles.
